Independence Day Renku ~
Men of means and not
Gathered 'round a principle
None were born higher
Individual strands each
Woven, unifying strength
A land of Freedom
Based on Liberty, Justice
Inspiring ideals
Passed down from the Ancient Greeks
Breathed new life by the English
Our experiment
Of, by and for the people
A light for the world .....
Is being challenged from within
As takers undermine pride
Rising corrupt class
Redistributions purchase
Allegiance, future
"Ask not what" has fled the scene
Replaced by "in it for me"
Ideals are untaught
What unified now divides
The woven strands fray
