R.I.P Red West

#1 Post by marlboro »

Actor, songwriter, stuntman and longtime friend and bodyguard to Elvis Presley, Red West, died on Tuesday at the age of 81. He was in two Magnum episodes: "All Roads Lead to Floyd" and "Let Me Hear the Music"

On TV, West appeared as a stuntman/actor on dozens of episodes of CBS' steampunk Western series The Wild Wild West in the 1960s and a decade later had a regular role as Sgt. Andy Micklin on another Robert Conrad series, NBC's Black Sheep Squadron. Among his film roles, he played Sheriff Tanner in the Walking Tall movies released in 1973 and 1975, but is probably best known to younger viewers as Red Webster, the owner of an auto parts store who gets his revenge against criminal kingpin Ben Gazzara in the 1989 Patrick Swayze flick, Road House.

No show had better fight scenes than The Wild Wild West and Red West was a big reason for that.

Songwriter, I did not know that . . . I love these guys who dabble in a little bit of everything.

RIP Mr. West.

R.I.P. Red.

He was with "The King" for a looong time.

As one of Elvis's high school buddies, he was one of the early/original members of the "Memphis Mafia".

Another addition to that "Hell of A Band" mentioned in the Righteous Brothers "Rock and Roll Heaven"

Not that he was known as a "musician" so much, but he was there....in the thick of it!

Rock and Roll Heaven
The Righteous Brothers
If you believe in forever,
Then life is just a one-night stand.
If there's a rock and roll heaven,
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band.
Jimmy gave us rainbows,
And Janis took a piece of our hearts,
And Otis brought us all to the dock of a bay.
Sing a song to light my fire,
Remember Jim that way,
They've all found another place, another place to play.
If you believe in forever,
Then life is just a one-night stand.
If there's a rock and roll heaven,
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band.
Remember bad bad Leroy Brown,
Hey Jimmy touched us with that song.
Time won't change a friend we came to know.
And Bobby gave us Mack the Knife,
Well look out, he's back in town.
They'll all be there together
When they meet in one big show.
If you believe in forever,
Then life is just a one-night stand.
If there's a rock and roll heaven,
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band.
There's a spotlight waiting
No matter who you are
Cause everybody's got a song to sing,
Everyone's a star
(Everybody's got to be a star).
If you believe in forever,
Then life is just a one-night stand.
If there's a rock and roll heaven,
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band.

LOVE that song!

And again, something I didn't know, Alan O'Day, he of "Undercover Angel" fame, co-wrote it.

Tidbit no one should care about - for some reason I always associate the song "Undercover Angel" with Charlie Dore's "Pilot of the Airwaves". I'm thinking it's a latent Charlie's Angels connection . . .
