911

Nobody ever calls 911 on the show, despite countless incidences where it would have been appropriate. I seem to recall 911 being "a thing" in the 1980s so I looked up how old the system is, and it seems like it was not operational in all areas then. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9-1-1#History

Anyone know when 911 became operational in Hawaii?

Looks like it was the mid to early 70's going by this article.

Not using the police just went along with the anti-establishment undertones of the show, Magnum always helped the little guy or the underdog, the people that the police often overlooked or didn't have time for. I think if Magnum and the gang couldn't deal with it then it couldn't be dealt with at all. Even after he befriended Tanaka he didn't involve him in an official capacity and he used Carol more for legal trouble than anything.

I'm thinking more of paramedics.

Haha yes I suppose they could've used those but I think most of their booboos were Monty Python-esque, Tis but a flesh wound lol If it were reality TM wouldn't be able to lift his arms above his waist with all of the shoulder shots he took.

Paramedics could also complicate what they were doing. Thomas was the only one with a private investigator license and the gang got roped into more than a few situations that officially would get htem in deep doo-doo.

Not to mention, "official" law enforcement/first responders don't have the warmest feelings towards those rogue agents. I think they handled it well. Tanaka liked Magnum even trusted him to a point, but he was always a little wary of him as well, same for Page. They may be on the same side, but they have different angles.

I agree, I always thought they should've done an episode with TM being arrested for all the crimes he pseudo committed like breaking and entering, assault, speeding & reckless driving, stalking, consorting with criminal plans (Icepick). They could've done it like they did with Rick and have Higgins be the one who rescues him like He did for Rick. An other Higgins centric episode similar to Holmes is where the heart is.

Great idea. Someone could be trying to discredit TM or take him off a case he's working on before he discovers their criminal activities. As long as there's no fake Mac involved.

I should have been more clear, I was never talking about calling the police, just an ambulance or medevac type thing. Thinking in particular of "Never Again" when Higgins is hit with the tranq dart and Magnum is lucky enough to get TC on the phone at his office even though it's late at night because he JUST HAPPENS to be there working with the accountant, and has him fly the chopper to Robins Nest and then fly everyone to the hospital. What if TC had been at home, miles away from the chopper? I kept thinking why not just call 911 and have a medical chopper sent FROM the hospital so you have EMTs on site with the injured person? That's the one that made me wonder if 911 might not have been active by that time.

That wouldn’t be exciting enough for the kids! I mean I wanted at least one Ferrari scene and one TC chopper scene per episode!
