1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi auction

Hi guys! Here's another chance to dream about owning your own Magnum mobile. I love the great info the Bring a Trailer forum members bring to the cars up for auction - so even if you're not going to bid, it's a good chance to learn some details about the 308 you may not have known before. For example, this year's model was mandated to have a speedo with numbers only going to 80 MPH...because, ya know, nobody would drive a Ferrari faster than that. Also, this 1980 version is the least desirable (only 205 hp), which may keep the price low...the 37K miles on the odometer, however, will likely push it higher than most mortals can afford.

Happy Bidding!

Thanks for sharing this with us Styles!!
Forum comments are always interesting to read, especially when dealing with a 308.
Loved the speedo comment -too funny!
It will be interesting to see what it sells for......prices sure have gone up in the last few years.

Approx $4,400 in labor and $2,400 in parts for the last services performed......The price is affordable but the cost to keep one running is just getting insane.......

I was just about to post this to the site, shoulda figured one of you would be on this already . . . you snooze you lose!

Still such a clean, classic looking ride. Most of the auto jargon goes way over my head, in this case I'm firmly in the simply "it looks beautiful" category.

So the 308 was bid to $53,500 and didn't meet the reserve. Interesting to read the comments noting that the value on these has actually dropped over the past few years. I do remember a bit of a frenzy... I'm still surprised it wasn't bid higher considering it's practically new with such low mileage. I guess the expensive maintenance still keeps the average Joe away.

I remember when you could purchase a 308 on avg. for between $30-$50,000 depending on yr./mileage/condition etc. and then prices were jumping north of $50,000.....($50 to $85,000 with a few even asking $100,000+ ). I think the car cost around $60,000 new back in day (somewhere around there). Anyway, nice to see it didn't reach it's reserve, maybe it will level things off a bit....based on the comments it does sound like things are cooling off which is good to hear. It's apparent that a well maintained 308 holds its value over time, but the maintenance bills do eat into the bottom line......they are an expensive hobby and like Styles mentioned not for the avg. Joe. One could try for a year or two and maybe come out of it fairly "unscathed", but heavens forbid the motor or timing belt goes or it even needs a major servicing......

Wow, a 38 year old car that he personally put 60,000 miles on and it is spotless. I was really impressed how clean the engine looked. This gentleman deserves to own that car.............

I agree Steve!
He purchased the car off of his buddy with basically nothing on the odometer...of course it was a good one to buy!!!
He has taken very good care of this beauty. GTBs usually sell for more than a GTS, but I still prefer the GTS for the obvious reason! :magnum:
