Even though I voted for another, one you didn't have on here was, 'Computer Date'. I love the Higgins part of this episode! Where he diets and exercises, to get in shape for the,"Lady Ashley'. At the end, when she shows up with her young escort, and Higgins lights up his cigarette, with such a content and relieved look on his face! Extraordinary!

I love that too, but I see it as more of a Higgins plot-line than a Higgins-centric episode. The dominant story is the investigation.MagnumILWU wrote:Even though I voted for another, one you didn't have on here was, 'Computer Date'. I love the Higgins part of this episode! Bumping this thread too. I know I'll be taking in a few today and this weekend. Which ones will you be going to?

I voted for Faith and Begorrah. Aside from JH's fine performances, the Father Paddy character manages to represent the other side of the England-Ireland issue. Plus we get all of Father Paddy's eccentricities which emphasize the differences between the two Higgins (half) brothers. Higgins' "difficulty" in dealing with his half brother's quirks is priceless.
Love the hotel and rooftop bar where Paddy was staying.
Plus there's that out-of-nowhere shock ending (special effects limitations forgiven) with Rick's stunned look adding to the greatness of the entire episode. I also appreciate that Ffolkes was brought back because No Need to Know is among my all-time favorite episodes.

I'll have to go with Faith and Begorrah, as well. I think it's one of the 10 best episodes of the entire series. Holmes is Where the Heart Is is also excellent.
I think one of Hillerman's best acting performances was in Murder by Night. In this episode you see the difference between him and the rest of the cast. The other actors were basically themselves acting differently, while Hillerman became a different character. That's a crappy sentence, but what I mean is, you were always aware that you were watching TC, Rick and Magnum in those scenes, but you forgot you were watching Higgins. That's the mark of a great actor to me.

I wish we could have selected two because I like them equally well. My favourites are "Letter to a Duchess" and "Holmes Is Where the Heart Is".
Both episodes have flaws, but not with John Hillerman's performance.

I am about a third of the way through the Higg-athon and I am using your list as a guide Styles (plus Black on White). Finished Letter to a Duchess this afternoon, The Case of the Red Faced Thespian is next up tomorrow.Styles Bitchley wrote:Bumping this thread too. I chose Elmo Ziller because it was the first and IMO the best of the dual roles for Hillerman showcasing his talents. It was almost a toss-up with Foiled Again though.

One episode I haven't seen mentioned, and one of my all time favorites, is "Black on White"! I do consider this a "Higgins Episode". The story centers around him, and his history. A few years ago, I bought a Tomytronic Pac Man game! When I hear that little beeping tune, I just smile!

I agree and I include it as a Higgins-centric episode even if it isn't all Higgins all the time. In fact it may be my fave Higgy-sode!MagnumILWU wrote:One episode I haven't seen mentioned, and one of my all time favorites, is "Black on White"! I do consider this a "Higgins Episode". Re: Best Higgins-centric episode?
Love this thread. It's an easy pic for me. I just love "Holmes Is Where the Heart Is." I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan to begin with, so the spin for this episode really gets me. But I think this story is just another clever one. The conflict Higgins faces between duty and friendship seen in this episode seems to me the conflict he's fighting within himself with Magnum. So though the show is a "flashback," I think it's still one filled with relevance to what's going on in the series' timeline. Just so smart. I like all the Higgins' episode. "Black on White" is probably my second favorite, but "Holmes Is Where the Heart Is" is an easy first for me.
* * * AND if I may, I would like to add "Computer Date" to the list of "Higgins-Centric" episodes. Love how Magnum sends Higgins through the fitness regime.
