Much thanks to Max Schueneman for providing this rare footage. He found it in an old, forgotten VHS tape and was kind enough to convert it to digital video and send it to me.

The special was filmed in the summer of 1986 just before they began filming on the Season Seven opener "L.A." in Los Angeles.

That was brilliant, James. Thanks so much for posting it.

Selleck... all the hype just flies right past him. Such an easy going guy... and that high pitched girly giggle that Selleck does seems to be real. Hilarious.

I still can't get over Hillerman speaking in his Texan accent.

TC's hair salon... a nice little place to go...

Incredible!!!! I enjoyed watching this more than the A&E Biography piece on Tom Selleck. How I miss those old talk shows like Merv's, Mike Douglas, Dick Cavett where they could do an entire hour on one theme..............(This episode was directed by Dick Carson, Johnny Carson's brother)

Great video find! But so many cuts in the interview between TS and Merv -- was the VCR pausing and restarting on its own? :D

I loved the story about John Hillerman selling the Porsche. And all 4 guys seemed to get along really well in real life, much like on the show.
