Any special requests?
Have fun! We're in the process of setting up our excursions and what we'll be doing for the days of our trup. I'm thinking of hitting the tidal pool the first day. According to the tide chart it's early in the morning, 6:00 AM, but I figure I'll still be on NY time so we'll be OK and we'll be ahead of traffic, and crowds.

OMG!!! You must be excited OUT OF YOUR MIND! I hope it is EVERYTHING you hope it will be (Hawaii usually is). Are you going to do the Island Hoppers helicopter flight?

Thanks guys, this will be our third visit.
Will certainly swim in the tidal pool. Kahala Resort with KK Beach Bar is also on the list.

Will pass by Agatha's home again just because I love the place and neighborhood.

Will have the Nikon ready

Conch, when are you going?

I have yet to let myself get too excited just yet. The way things have been the last decade or so It's not until I'm on the plane that it's real.

As for Island Hoppers, I'm a bit antsy. I have always said I wouldn't do a helicopter tour, they go down waaay too often . . . but . . . I never thought I'd have the chance to do one in TC's chopper! I have to really think about this.

End of December. Trying to get a reservation for Dukes to see Henry Kapono but it's still too far out.

Agatha's neighborhood wasn't on my wish list, should it be?

My three MUST SEE places are: The Estate (duh), the overlook where Thomas says goodbye to Michelle and Byodo-In Temple. Mrs. Conch is up for two whole days of Magnum Mania so who knows what else we'll do.

Peter,

Just MY suggestion, but spray yourself and Ms. Conch with mosquito repellant for the Byoto Inn Temple. I was eaten alive by mosquitos there, and it rather bummed out my appreciation of the location. In December, it might not be a problem, but it doesn't hurt anything to take that precaution, and it could mess up enjoyment if you don't. Just sayin' . . . . .

But I'm sure we ALL want to see YOUR pictures. You ARE one of the ultimate MPI fans, and I'm so happy for you that you are finally going to be able to go to Oahu and stand on the Robin's Nest beach and look at the tidal pool "in person." I'm so excited for you! I want to see a video of you doing your "happy dance" in the sand!

Hello Conch,

too bad, I had hope that we could meet up next week ;)

As for locations, in my opinion, you should do Waialae Beach Park.

You can see the KKC Beach bar at the end of the parking lot:

Turn right any you see the remote beach where you can see Magnum often jogging:

turn left and walk 5 minutes, you can see the Kahala resort where the other KKC Beach bar is located:

You can also see that beach in front of the Kahala, and you'll be surprised how often you can see that little island with the 5 palms in the background during the show. They've done a lot of shooting there:

We've left that out on our first visit and where very happy doing it on our second trip.

As for Agatha's home: We Europeans love US suburb neighbourhoods and the house embedded between the mountains is just gorgeous for us.

If you are staying in Honolulu and are taking the cross-island highway back - you are almost driving by.

One thing that you should do is the coastal drive to Pahonu though - I'd do that in the morning.

Thanks, 308 guy :higgins:

I've posted this somewhere else - this is my favourite pic of all time.
The original file is 35 MB and I've had it printed on metal and it's on our living room wall:

Image

No photoshop!
It was the most beautiful day that I could imagine the only backdraw was, that we both suffered a foodpoisoning with a horrible night before that day.

You can see rabbit island from "the other side", TC's pad in the background and the street heading to the eastate.
If you watch the mountains on the left, you may understand, why Mrs. Anderson's tidal wall is mostly in the shadow.
The mountains catch the more or less every cloud and these darken the sun that shines on the estate beach.

That would have been great to meet up with a fellow Maniac in the Promised Land!

You have sold me on Waialae Beach Park. It was on my short list, not a MUST SEE, but someplace I was hoping to check out, I was just concerned how it would look today. You have allayed my concerns!
